DESCENDANTS OF JOHN CROFT(S) and MARY ANN

Generation 1

1.  John CROFT(S) was born 1842 in Coventry, Warwickshire, England.  In 1881 he was aged 39, a Silk Dyer, living with his wife Mary Ann aged 36 (b1845) from Coventry, at No2 Swan Street, Coventry. The KENDALL family knows the surname was spelt without the last S, mentioned here, but I have shown it here, as this is how it is shown in the 1881 census.  In fact there are no CROFT families shown for Coventry during this time, it is shown as CROFTS.  It has been family talk within the KENDALLs of Coventry, that John CROFT(S) was one of the instigators in the making of the ‘Coventry Blue’ colour.  My Grandad (Sidney KENDALL) and Great Uncle Hubert (KENDALL) have both heard this ‘information’ about John CROFT.

Children of John and Mary Ann.

i)  Charlotte Elizh; (Elizabeth) CROFT(S) born 1869 in Coventry, aged 12 and a scholar in 1881.  Great Uncle Hubert knew her as ‘Aunt Lottie’.
ii)  Lizzie CROFT(S) born 1879 in Coventry, aged 2 and a scholar! in 1881.  She died 2nd June 1949 aged 70 years.  (See Generation 2 below).
iii)  Lilla CROFT(S) born 1880/1 in Coventry, aged 3 months at the time of the 1881 census.  Great Uncle Hubert knew her as ‘Aunt Lilly’.  He says that she had a son Norman who has passed away, but Norman’s wife is still alive, and still sends Uncle Hubert christmas cards as of 1999.

Generation 2

2. Lizzie CROFT(S) (daughter of John and Mary Ann), married Edwin KENDALL (see KENDALL file).  (Lizzie and Edwin are Lorraine’s great-grandparents.)

More to follow when I have the details.
