CROWTHER

This is Colin's (my stepfather) grandmother's  lineage, that I started researching earlier this year.  Her name was Betsy CROWTHER.

Betsy's father was from Todmorden, Lancashire; and was a cotton ware sizer.  Betsy's brother Willy was manager of the local Co-operative (food store) in Blackpool, Lancashire, he then with his dance band worked on cruise liners, and he later became the owner of the Chorley Advertiser newspaper in Lancashire.  Betsy's sister Sarah married into the PECKOVER family of Barnoldswick, Yorkshire.  Betsy's other brother Charlie worked on ships sailing to India, and later worked on the trains in Todmorden.  Colin's family have said that one of Betsy's  brothers also won an olympic medal at swimming, and belonged to the Blackpool Swimming Club, unfortunately I don't know which brother it was, this needs further investigation.

This is what I have so far on this line.

James CROWTHER born 1849 married 1871  Mary Ann BUTTERWORTH (see Butterworth page).

Betsy CROWTHER married Harry PURCELL (see Purcell page)
                ¦
Ida PURCELL married George Brooks SLATER.  My stepfather's parents. (See Slater page).
